Not good enough

Picture
When you find yourself feeling like you’re not good enough, that you’re not worthy of that promotion or relationship or new car – realize that what you’re doing is comparing yourself to others. Whenever we feel not good enough, we’re comparing our worst traits with the best qualities of someone else. Just think about that, in the sense that, most people put on their best face, best image when they interact with others. So that’s why you think Jane is so charismatic, and Andrew has excellent leadership. You judge those aspects with your doubts and fears. Your fear of being laughed at compares you to Jane’s charisma; you compare your fear of public speaking with Andrew’s leadership.  What you need to do is just stop. Stop comparing yourself to others. As all it does is erode your self-esteem even more.

Instead I want you to remember this! You are unique. We are all unique. It sounds like a cliché but we are. There is no-one who has your exact DNA, your exact experiences, your exact way of learning, and your exact feelings. This makes you special, it makes you worthwhile, and it makes you part of this world as someone who has something to offer. Your unique take and your unique perspective are worth something in this world. Your unique talents, skills and qualities are of value.

Each one of us has a unique life experience. We all have different attitudes and sets of personal circumstances. We react differently based on past experiences. Our experiences are subjective. I can guarantee you that Jane thinks your compassion is unrivaled and would never consider herself charismatic. Andrew is scared of making decisions that affect the team and thinks your calm-under-pressure attitude is awesome!

So next time you think you’re not good enough, stop. Stop beating yourself up. Stop comparing yourself. And remember just how truly special and unique you are. No-one, and I mean, no-one else is exactly like you. So embrace your quirkiness, embrace your perceived weaknesses and turn them into strengths. Love yourself as you are, and be proud to be you. There is no-one else quite like you. Shine on sparkly being, shine on!
