I Choose...
A variation on the "I am ...." or the "I want" affirmations is the "I choose...". Saying that you are 'choosing' gives you a sense of ownership over the statement. It forces your conscious mind to declare that it is willing to change, is willing to 'choose' a better way of life/state of mind.
Anytime is the right time to say an affirmation, if it feels right for you, however I find that it is helpful to start the day as you mean to go on. Focusing your efforts on how you wish to behave/think/feel first thing in the morning, sets you up with positivity, inspiration and clear intentions for the rest of your day.

At night you may desire to reflect on your affirmations and choose moments of the day when you did achieve them, and moments when you may have been able to do better. This is simply a reflection, not a time to chastise yourself. You know that you'll be able to choose those intentions to focus on the very next day. Go to bed knowing that you achieved, you learned, and you chose to behave/think/feel in a certain way. Then be gracious for the entire day. Thank God, the universe, your Higher-Self, Buddha, Kali, the faeries at the end of the garden - whatever your belief - thank them for being by your side, thank them for the learning opportunities, and thank them for always understanding you, and loving you unconditionally. This is how you should also love yourself.
